Fresh From the Market

Where community, food and stories meet.

Sample of Kirasole upcycled apparel

It is so good to be back outside. After an April that swung between dreary rain and unexpected bursts of sunshine in the 70s, May arrives with promise — blue skies, blooming color and that feeling of everything being renewed and repurposed.

The days are warming now, and these early, cooler mornings will soon give way to everyone’s favorite stretch of early summer.

Here at the Market, this is the season we look forward to all year. Tanned faces, open sandals and busy social calendars return. Friends and family reconnect — with each other, with the Valley, and with the simple joy of being together again.

And Kirasole is ready, bringing a garden of spring and summer accessories for the easy, breezy months ahead.

The name Kirasole reflects Kyra’s name and Susan’s soul — a balance of vision and heart, and its philosophy: girasole/girasol — the Italian and Spanish words for sunflower — a symbol of resilience, growth and always turning toward the light.

That spirit carries through their work. Kirasole is a mother-daughter studio rooted in creativity and resourcefulness, part of a broader movement happening quietly around us — repurposing, reusing and reimagining what already exists.

Much like the way they fill their home with secondhand finds, inherited pieces, thrifted treasures, and garage sale discoveries — objects with history, given new life — Kirasole approaches fashion the same way. Old becomes new again. Materials are not discarded, but reinterpreted. Style becomes layered with story.

And with a season full of celebrations ahead — and plenty of moments just for you — they may have exactly what you’re looking for.

Their fabric headbands are ideal for outdoor reunions, beach days, picnics, concerts, or simply keeping your hair back on a warm day. Available in a range of seasonal fabrics, they pair beautifully with Kirasole’s custom-designed tees and sweatshirts, or a reimagined pair of jeans-turned-skirt.

Or consider a scrunchie keyholder with a charm accent — functional, stylish, and wearable as a bracelet to keep your hands free while strolling boardwalks or summer festivals. They also make thoughtful bridal shower favors or bridesmaid gifts.

We reached out to Kirasole to see what they’re most looking forward to this summer season.

What is it that you look forward to most when we move outside for the Summer Market?
The rhythm of the Summer Market — the steady flow of shoppers, the buzz of community and the many moments of connection with both new and familiar faces. It’s knowing we get to be a small part of someone’s summer story.

Does Kirasole have a vision for the upcoming season?
This summer is about keeping things simple and meaningful. We’re focusing on upcycled pieces and easy styles people can wear again and again. It’s less about trends and more about feeling good in what you wear. With America’s 250th birthday ahead, we’re working on some new designs — and being in Italy (finally, a vacation!), we may find inspiration in the colors and textures here.

What is the best part of summer for you?
The Summer Market is busier, but the best part is the connection — seeing someone try something on, smile and walk away excited to wear it or gift it. That’s what makes it all worth it. The energy is greater: more people, more conversations and more chances to share what we do. Sales matter, of course, but it’s the sense of community and those small, happy moments that stand out most.

Do you do custom orders?
Sometimes — and we love a challenge. Most of our custom work is very specific, like adding new pockets to a vintage leather jacket, sewing patches onto a denim vest, or creating a custom-designed sweatshirt. We enjoy helping bring someone else’s vision to life.

Where we’re more cautious is with irreplaceable pieces, like a favorite worn-out pair of jeans. We’d never want to risk altering something sentimental in a way that doesn’t match what you imagined.

So head over to Kirasole’s booth and take a moment to discover something that feels like you — a piece that’s both new and familiar, thoughtfully made and ready for its next story.
