Fresh From the Market
Where community, food and stories meet.

From a 1775 Homestead to Your Glass
July 10, 2026
The lazy, hazy days of summer have arrived.
The Fourth of July is behind us, the heat has settled into New England, and soon the market will be overflowing with the best of the season—from fresh fruits and vegetables to seafood from the Gulf of Maine.
Among the many local products you’ll find at the market is another New Hampshire harvest that showcases the creativity of our state’s growers: Coffin Cellars Winery.
Based in Webster, New Hampshire, Coffin Cellars specializes in handcrafted wines made from locally grown fruits, berries, and even vegetables. Named after 17th-century settler Tristram Coffyn, the winery blends generations of family history with creative winemaking.
Winemaker Peter Coffin Austin began making wine in the 1970s and now operates the winery alongside his sons, Jamie and Tim, from the family’s 1775 colonial home. After opening to the public in 2010 with just four wines, Coffin Cellars has expanded to more than a dozen rotating varietals using fruit grown on thousands of berry bushes, vines, and orchard trees.
Market favorites include Cranberry-Pomegranate, Strawberry Rhubarb, Lime Wine, Elderberry, Jalapeño, Raspberry, and Asian Pear. Watch for Tomato Wine later this month—a dry, Mediterranean-style white with aromas reminiscent of a summer tomato garden—as well as Blackberry, a Port-style wine that pairs beautifully with aged cheeses.
We recently caught up with Tim Austin to see what’s new at the winery.
“Last year was our best year ever,” Tim shared. “We expanded the winery this spring, nearly doubled our production space, added new tanks, and have already started filling them with new wines.”
Customer favorites continue to be Lime, Strawberry Rhubarb, and Aronia Berry, with exciting new releases on the horizon, including Asian Pear, Black Raspberry, and Honeyberry.
From berry wines to bold, unexpected creations, Coffin Cellars showcases the creativity and craftsmanship of New Hampshire winemaking. We invite you to stop by their booth at the Salem NH Farmers Market and discover a new favorite.
