GROWING JANE’S LEGACY

At the Market, we believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food. It was a core belief of our founder, Jane Lang. In July 2010, Jane brought her passion, determination and signature floppy hat to launch what would become one of Salem’s most cherished institutions. But she didn’t just found your local farmers market: she built it, nurtured it and gave it purpose.

NOURISHING OUR COMMUNITY

Jane’s legacy lives on in every vendor tent, every fresh apple sold, every child enjoying a sample of jam, every SNAP recipient who can shop with dignity thanks to the match program. Her fingerprints are on every act of kindness, every mission-driven partnership and every effort to make the Market more inclusive and accessible.

Jane’s vision ensured the Market served not just customers and vendors, but also food-insecure neighbors. Under her leadership, donations from the Market began flowing to the Salem Boys & Girls Club and the town’s Welfare Department. She helped launch a statewide gleaning program that redirected surplus produce to senior centers, food pantries and schools. For Jane, feeding people was a moral responsibility.

Our SNAP Match program turns that vision into reality by increasing the purchasing power of families in need. With your support, local businesses can help ensure that food-insecure neighbors not only put nutritious meals on their tables but also strengthen our local farming community. Together, through the Growing Jane’s Legacy fundraising campaign, we can transform generosity into lasting impact — building a healthier, more connected community for all.
